The big cheese is the boss or other authoritative person in an organisation.
Examples of Usage of Big cheese
When you’re called to see the big cheese, it can mean only one of two things. You’re going to be promoted or you’re going to be sacked. It’s hard to be the big cheese when you’re self-employed and have nobody beneath you.
